Internacional confirmed on Monday (20) the signing of Eduardo Baptista as its new head coach. The agreement establishes a contract until December 2026, with the coach’s primary mission being to lift the Colorado from the Brazilian Serie A relegation zone in the remaining ten rounds.
Baptista arrives to replace Paulo Pezzolano, who was fired after the defeat to São Paulo.
Background at Criciúma
Eduardo Baptista had been managing Criciúma since May 2025. At the Santa Catarina club, he had a positive initial performance, leading the team for much of the Brazilian Serie B season.
However, the Tigre’s campaign lost momentum in recent rounds, culminating in criticism and jeers from fans after a 2-0 loss to Operário-PR.
Challenge at Beira-Rio
The situation is urgent for Internacional. Currently in 18th place in the Brazilian Serie A with 28 points, the Rio Grande do Sul club sees the need for an immediate turnaround to avoid relegation.
The arrival of Baptista, accompanied by assistant coach Julio Cesar Schiavon and performance analyst Lucas Brito Sousa, aims to inject new energy and strategy to reverse the team’s precarious position in the standings.
Inter’s board considered other names, such as Luís Zubeldía and Jair Ventura, but negotiations did not materialize.
