With a stellar performance from Samuel Lino, Flamengo crushes Botafogo 3-0 at the Maracanã and immediately puts pressure on Palmeiras for the lead in the Brazilian Championship.

Flamengo left nothing to chance and kept the red-and-black fans’ hopes alive in the pursuit of the top spot in the Brazilian Serie A. In an electrifying classic held this Sunday (30), valid for the 25th round, the team coached by Leonardo Jardim defeated Botafogo with a decisive 3-0 victory at the Maracanã.

The star of the match was forward Samuel Lino, who scored two of the team’s three goals. The result not only reaffirms Mengão‘s strength in the national competition but also places all the pressure on Palmeiras, the current leader, who is yet to play this round against Mirassol.

Red-and-black dominance and controversy in the first half

The start of the match was marked by tension. Just 8 minutes in, Botafogo found the net through Arthur Cabral, but the referee, after consultation, disallowed the goal due to a handball by the forward. Flamengo’s response was immediate and fatal: in the 12th minute, Jorginho delivered a precise pass behind the white-and-black defense to Samuel Lino, who didn’t miss and opened the scoring.

“The team managed to control their anxiety after the initial scare and build the result intelligently, showing offensive repertoire against an opponent that tried to play defensively,” evaluated the M360 Team.

Second-half efficiency seals the rout

In the second half, the game took on dramatic turns. Flamengo weathered the opponent’s pressure and saw a goal by Lucas Paquetá disallowed for offside. However, the red-and-black persistence was rewarded in the 40th minute when Samuel Lino extended the lead with a precise chip after a swift counter-attack.

The icing on the cake came in the 43rd minute. With a spectacular goal, Jorge Carrascal capitalized on a turnover and finished first-time, setting the final score of the match. The 3-0 was the outcome of a solid and convincing performance.

Focus on the table and the next challenge

With the three points earned, Flamengo reaches 48 points in the standings, closing the gap to Palmeiras (51). The victory boosts the team’s morale for the frenetic run of upcoming fixtures.

Leonardo Jardim‘s squad doesn’t have much time to celebrate. Next Wednesday (02), Mais Querido returns to the Maracanã pitch at 7:30 PM, this time to face Mirassol in a postponed match from the fourth round. The game is internally treated as a “final” to further reduce the difference to the first-placed team.
