Flamengo Strengthens Youth Academy with Record-Setting Cuiabá Forward

Flamengo has announced the signing of another young talent for its youth academy. This time, it’s Aiyran, a forward who stood out at Cuiabá, breaking records within the Mato Grosso club’s youth ranks. The promising player signed a four-year deal with the Rubro-Negro, with an option to extend for an additional season.

Aiyran makes history at Cuiabá as the youngest player to score a goal for the professional squad. At just 17 years, five months, and 29 days old, the forward found the net against América-MG in a Brazilian Serie B match, etching his name into the club’s trajectory.

Aiyran’s return to Rio de Janeiro represents a homecoming for the young athlete. Born in São Gonçalo, he grew up in the Barreto neighborhood of Niterói.

His career in Rio de Janeiro football included brief stints with Fluminense and Botafogo, where he remained until the end of 2024. After being released by the General Severiano club, Aiyran even underwent trials at Flamengo, but a new round of evaluations was interrupted when Cuiabá came calling.

His Journey in Mato Grosso

Thiago Aprigio, former head of Mengão’s youth academy and now with Cuiabá, was instrumental in Aiyran’s arrival at the Mato Grosso club in March 2025.

For Cuiabá’s senior team, the forward played in three matches and scored one goal, specifically the winning goal against América-MG on July 2, 2026. On that occasion, the player came on in the second half, played only 16 minutes, and secured the 1-0 scoreline.

For Cuiabá’s U-20 team, Aiyran tallied 21 games, six goals, and one assist. His most impressive numbers, however, came with the U-17 team in 2025, where he played 31 matches and scored 20 goals.

Flamengo’s Market Strategy

The acquisition of Aiyran aligns with Flamengo’s recruitment strategy, which targets young players with development potential and early professional team experience.

This strategy of Flamengo’s—to pick up youth-aged players who already play for professional teams—is a good alternative. When it works and Flamengo manages to sign them, it’s very beneficial, as the club acquires an athlete with professional experience and has the chance to develop him in the youth academy to evolve into the senior squad or to facilitate transfers to European clubs.

With these signings, Flamengo seeks not only to strengthen its youth academy but also to develop athletes who can add value to the senior team or generate future revenue through international transfers. Aiyran’s arrival represents another step in the Rio de Janeiro club’s long-term vision.
