Flamengo has rejected a massive offer from Europe for forward Samuel Lino, prioritizing its sports project and squad depth while leading the 2026 Brazilian Serie A.
The European transfer market turned its eyes to South American soccer, but Flamengo‘s board took an unyielding stance. An offer of R$ 140 million for forward Samuel Lino was promptly rejected by the Rio de Janeiro club.
The club’s hierarchy determined that the player’s sporting value outweighs any immediate financial compensation, securing his stay for the crucial stretch of the season under manager Leonardo Jardim.
Signed from Spain’s Atlético de Madrid in 2025, the player quickly established himself as a key piece in the team’s tactical system. Under contract through December 2029, the Brazil national team player is enjoying a surge in market value, driven by his decisive performances on both the national and international stages.
Market Value and Technical Growth
The initial investment made by Mengão to acquire the winger’s rights has proven to be extremely successful. A recent study by CIES ranked the player as the fifth most valuable player in the national league, with an estimated valuation of around 31.3 million euros.
This financial leap directly reflects his on-field performance and the trust placed in him by the coaching staff. Since joining the club, the forward has logged impressive numbers, including dozens of direct goal contributions.
Furthermore, winning the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Serie A in 2024, along with the Campeonato Carioca title in 2026, earned the player a call-up to wear the national team jersey under Carlo Ancelotti, where he has already found the back of the net.
The board stated:
Keeping players of Samuel Lino‘s caliber reinforces the ambition of our sports project and the club’s competitiveness on the global stage.
Squad Management and Upcoming Challenges
The board’s firm stance was not limited to the number 16. During the last transfer window, Aston Villa made a move to sign right-back Emerson Royal, but the English club’s bid was also turned down by the board.
Other players in the squad, such as Léo Pereira, Carrascal, and João Victor, drew interest from abroad, highlighting the strength of the Rio club’s talent pool.
With 60 points and sole possession of first place in the 28th round of the 2026 Brazilian Serie A, the Rubro-Negro is now focused on maintaining its strong momentum. Their next fixture takes place this Thursday at 7:30 p.m., when the team visits Santos at Vila Belmiro.
Retaining its top stars ensures Flamengo has the depth required to remain strong in pursuit of more trophies through the end of the season.
