Flamengo has agreed to transfer midfielder Guilherme, a product of its youth academy, to Gil Vicente of Portugal. The deal is valued at around 400,000 euros for the economic rights.
Flamengo continues to make moves behind the scenes, and on Wednesday (02), the club finalized the departure of another promising young talent from its youth divisions. Midfielder Guilherme Gomes, 20, is on his way to Gil Vicente, a team competing in the top tier of Portuguese football. The player, who was not part of coach Leonardo Jardim‘s immediate plans, is now seeking opportunities in the European scene.
The negotiation between Rubro-Negro and the Portuguese team stipulates a payment of 400,000 euros — approximately R$ 2.5 million — for the transfer of 70% of the player’s economic rights. The Rio de Janeiro club, being cautious, secured the retention of a percentage for future profit in a potential resale of the midfielder, as well as a clause allowing the Portuguese team to acquire an additional 15% of the rights for 100,000 euros.
Transaction Details and Player’s Future
Although the main points of the agreement have been settled, the official announcement awaits the completion of bureaucratic procedures, including medical examinations. Guilherme was under contract with the Gávea club until December 2028, following a renewal signed in March of this year. His departure marks the end of a journey that began in 2021 when the player joined the Rio de Janeiro club to play for the lower divisions.
Career Path and Revealed Potential
The midfielder accumulated significant achievements in Flamengo’s youth setup, including two world titles and the Copa Libertadores. In the professional team, Guilherme played in the Carioca Championship and the 2024 Brazilian Championship, scoring five goals in 11 appearances. His debut for the senior team, notably, came with a goal against Cuiabá at the Arena Pantanal.
Pedro Paulo Catonho, a journalist for Coluna do Fla, commented:
“I see a lot of potential in this young player Guilherme. In the few times he played for the first team, he always performed well. He scored a great goal last season in the Brasileirão, from outside the box against Mirassol. I never understood why he never got an opportunity. For this amount, then… it’s a very low sale price. Success to him in Portugal.”
Guilherme‘s departure reflects Flamengo‘s policy of rotating its assets developed at Ninho do Urubu. For the player, the experience in European football is considered a fundamental step for his professional affirmation, while the club’s management monitors the young talent’s performance in Portugal for potential future financial returns.
