Flamengo is using the FIFA international break to conduct intensive training sessions at Ninho do Urubu, focusing on tactical and physical adjustments essential for the season’s final stretch.

Following their significant 2-1 victory over Red Bull Bragantino, Flamengo has entered a critical preparation phase. With the Brazilian Serie A calendar paused due to national team commitments, the coaching staff led by Leonardo Jardim is taking advantage of the free time for fine-tuning the squad.

The red-and-black squad, after enjoying a brief rest on Monday, resumed activities at the Ninho do Urubu Training Center on Tuesday. The club’s objective is to maximize the conditioning of available players to face the marathon of matches that will determine the team’s success in domestic and continental competitions.

Focus on Tactical and Physical Adjustments

The FIFA international break offers a rare opportunity in Brazil’s packed football schedule. With no official matches for nearly two weeks, Flamengo is dedicating its mornings at the CT to honing its playing style. This work is crucial for maintaining their lead in the national league and pursuing their dream of winning the Copa Libertadores.

As highlighted by the M360 Team, the period of inactivity is viewed internally as a strategic asset:

The training window allows the squad to recover physically and enables the coaching staff to implement tactical variations that wouldn’t be possible during weeks with consecutive games.

Absences and the Challenge of Call-ups

Jardim‘s plan, however, faces a common obstacle: the absence of key players. Six players have been called up by their respective national teams, including prominent names like Pedro, Samuel Lino, Arrascaeta, and Varela. Additionally, Gonzalo Plata and Anthony Valencia are also representing Ecuador.

This situation requires the coaching staff to work with two distinct groups. While the called-up players represent their countries, those remaining in Rio de Janeiro are focusing on specific strength and endurance training. The expectation is that the gradual return of these players will not disrupt the team’s collective chemistry.

Outlook for Return to the Pitch

Rubro-Negro‘s full focus is now on their return to the field on October 8th. The match will be a high-stakes duel against Santos at the Vila Belmiro stadium, part of the 29th round of the Brasileirão.

As the break nears its end, the performance demonstrated after this hiatus will be decisive for the club’s ambitions. The careful management of training load suggests that Flamengo aims to reach the final stages of the tournament with an squad in superior physical condition compared to its main rivals in the standings.
