Combining energy and tradition on the state courts, reigning champion Sesc RJ Flamengo begins its title defense campaign this Tuesday (06).
The team coached by head coach Bernardinho faces Tijuca Tênis Clube at the opponent’s gym, marking the Rubro-Negro squad’s kickoff in the regional volleyball competition.
The tournament’s opening match will feature broad media coverage for fans to follow the players’ performance.
SporTV2 will broadcast the match live on cable TV, while FlamengoTV streams the action on YouTube.
How the team comes into the opener
The Rubro-Negro squad underwent a roster revamp and recently integrated the players who were representing their respective national teams.
Preparation aims to reach peak physical and technical form for the season’s challenges on the national sports stage.
Despite recently winning the SuperVôlei Cup in Niterói, the roster comes off a tight tie-break defeat against Dentil Praia Clube during the All-Star Game.
The setback served for fine adjustments in the team led by Bernardinho.
For this first commitment, Sesc RJ Flamengo will not yet have full strength available on the court.
Missing from the team are Serbian middle blocker Minja Osmajić and outside hitter Karina, both recovering from fractures.
Our team continues in a constant process of evolution and integration of the athletes who returned from international duty, aiming to maintain a high competitive level in pursuit of another trophy for the club.
Next steps in the tournament
The Carioca Championship schedule holds intense new challenges for the defending champions in the coming days.
On Saturday (10), the rivalry match against Fluminense is set to excite the court at Tijuca Tênis Clube at 7 p.m. (Brasília time).
The initial phase of the state tournament will determine the two finalists who will contend for the trophy on October 13.
Sesc RJ Flamengo holds the record as the most successful team in tournament history and seeks to crown its dominance with a 21st title.
