The classic rivalry between Flamengo and Vasco heats up the second round of the U-20 Copa do Brasil this Thursday. The winner advances in a single-leg knockout match, deciding who stays alive in the national tournament.
The Luso-Brasileiro stadium in Rio de Janeiro will host a decisive clash this Thursday (08). At 4:30 PM, Flamengo and Vasco will face off in a single-leg match for the second round of the U-20 Copa do Brasil, where victory is the only way to secure a spot in the round of 16.
This knockout duel carries special weight, as the competition rules state that if the score is level at the end of regulation time, the winner will be decided directly by a penalty shootout. The match will be broadcast on the cable channel SporTV and the free streaming platform Mil Sports.
Different scenarios for the ‘Clássico dos Milhões’
Flamengo enters the pitch looking for redemption after an early exit from the U-20 Brazilian Serie A. Under the guidance of Marcelo Salazar, the team relies on the strength of the squad currently leading the Taça Guanabara, bolstered by the returns of Léo Nannetti and João Victor, who had been training with the Brazil national team U-20.
On the other hand, Vasco is going through a bright spell, supported by an eight-game unbeaten streak. The optimism at Vasco also stems from the excellent form of striker Andrey Fernandes, who is enjoying an impressive goalscoring run this season.
The ‘Clássico dos Milhões’ brings together two of the country’s main youth development hubs, with Flamengo chasing an unprecedented title and Vasco consolidating its competitiveness at the elite level of the category.
Competition format and expectations
The 2026 edition of the U-20 Copa do Brasil, organized by the CBF, has expanded its reach to 64 clubs, increasing the tournament’s competitiveness. The single-match dynamic in the early stages, defined by geographical proximity criteria, heightens the tension for teams that have no margin for error.
For fans, today’s matchup is an opportunity to watch the future promises of Brazilian football. While Flamengo tries to fill a gap in their trophy cabinet, the winner this afternoon will secure their passport to the two-legged knockout stages, narrowing the path to the grand final scheduled for December.
