Flamengo is expediting negotiations for Anthony Valencia and Joaquín Freitas to strengthen their squad before CONMEBOL‘s registration deadline for the Copa Libertadores.

After the departure of Plata, recently sold to Dynamo Moscow, Flamengo has intensified its activity in the transfer market to fill offensive gaps. The Rubro-Negro leadership is in advanced negotiations to finalize the arrival of two new forwards: Ecuadorian Anthony Valencia from Royal Antwerp, and young Argentine Joaquín Freitas from River Plate.

The board’s objective is clear: to deliver the reinforcements to head coach Leonardo Jardim before September 4. This is the deadline set by CONMEBOL for clubs to register new players for the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, where Flamengo will face the in-form Independiente del Valle.

Negotiation Details

Negotiations for 23-year-old Anthony Valencia are the closest to a positive outcome and could be finalized in the coming days. The player, who also featured in the 2026 World Cup, had his transfer estimated at 5 million euros. The Belgian club will also retain a 15% sell-on clause.

Regarding 19-year-old Joaquín Freitas, the Rio-based club is discussing the final details with River Plate, especially concerning the percentages of economic rights. The projected investment for the Argentine talent is around 17 million dollars, reflecting the potential of the player who has already represented the Argentina national team.

Impact and Expectation

The search for new names gains urgency given the complexity of the upcoming continental challenge. Independiente del Valle is on a dominant run, accumulating 16 consecutive victories. For the M360 Team, the arrival of these reinforcements is seen as essential to balance the Rio-based team’s firepower in the competition.

The M360 Team highlighted:

The transfer market is heating up, and the need to bolster the offensive sector is an absolute priority for the rest of the season.

With the transfer window in Brazil open until September 11, Flamengo needs to remain focused on the South American governing body’s schedule. The signing of both players promises to add greater depth to the squad, especially with Freitas‘ versatility, as he plays both on the wings and as a secondary striker.
