At 23 years old, midfielder Evertton Araujo reaches the century mark with the red-and-black jersey and reflects on his overcoming journey since the start of his career in the interior of Rio de Janeiro.
Flamengo’s victory over Vitória, in the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship, held an even more special meaning for one of the important pieces of the squad. Midfielder Evertton Araujo, number 52, officially completed 100 matches defending the club, consolidating his place in one of the most competitive rosters in national football.
A journey of overcoming
Born in Volta Redonda, the athlete first encountered a soccer ball at four years old, but it was at his hometown club, at 13, that he began his tactical training as a defensive midfielder. The leap to ‘Mais Querido’ (Most Beloved, referring to Flamengo) came after competing in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in 2022, when the young player arrived at the Gávea (Flamengo’s headquarters) on loan. His immediate success in the youth categories secured his permanent stay.
Recalling the path traveled, the player highlights the difficulty in believing he would one day reach such a level:
It was unlikely to come from Volta Redonda. I kept getting stronger and stronger: all the opportunities I had, both in the U-20 and professional teams, I elevated my level, working hard and strengthening myself
Challenges and affirmation in the professional ranks
Evertton’s journey was not without obstacles. After his professional debut in early 2023, the midfielder suffered a severe fibula fracture in April of that year. The recovery demanded resilience and patience, but his return was marked by the title of the Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-20 (U-20 Brazilian Championship), which served as a springboard to a starting position in the senior team.
In the following years, his evolution was evident. The midfielder actively participated in the championship-winning squads of the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Carioca (Rio de Janeiro State Championship). Furthermore, he experienced his peak in 2025, being part of groups that lifted important trophies like the CONMEBOL Libertadores and the Supercopa do Brasil.
Numbers and future at Gávea
Over his 100 games, Evertton Araujo’s record is positive: 63 wins, 26 draws, and only 11 losses. In 2026, the midfielder continues to be a frequent figure, accumulating 35 appearances in the current season. The number 52, whose contract runs until December 2028, celebrates the milestone as a gift not only for himself but also for his family.
