The Copa do Brasil Round of 16 begins this Saturday with a derby and two more matches.

The excitement of the Copa do Brasil returns in full force this Saturday (01), marking the start of the Round of 16. Six teams will take the field aiming to secure the advantage needed to advance to the quarterfinals of the country’s main knockout tournament.

The day’s schedule features three unmissable clashes: the Rio derby between Vasco and Fluminense at 5:30 PM, followed by Atlético-MG against Juventude at 7:30 PM, and to close out the night, Santos takes on Remo at 9:00 PM.

Big Matches and Broadcasts

The Maracanã will host the reprised derby between Vasco and Fluminense, reminiscent of a 2025 semifinal. The match will have extensive coverage, broadcast on free-to-air TV by Globo, on YouTube by GeTV, and on subscription channels SporTV and Premiere.

Team Paths to the Round of 16

Vasco secured their spot in the Round of 16 after overcoming Paysandu in the fifth round with a 4-2 aggregate score. Fluminense, on the other hand, qualified by defeating Operário-PR, following a goalless draw in the first leg.

Atlético-MG began their campaign by eliminating Ceará in a penalty shootout. The Minas Gerais-based team aims to make the most of their home advantage at Arena MRV, where they boast a record of few defeats this season. On the other side, Juventude paved their way from the second round, overcoming opponents like Guaporé, Tuna Luso, Águia de Marabá, and São Paulo, relying on their defensive solidity.

Santos, in turn, dispatched Coritiba in the fifth round, following a goalless draw at Vila Belmiro and a 2-0 victory at Couto Pereira. Remo started their journey earlier and eliminated Bahia with two victories, one at Fonte Nova and another at Mangueirão.

Flamengo’s Absence from the Competition

The news also recalls Flamengo‘s early exit from the Copa do Brasil. The five-time champions were eliminated after losing to Vitória at Barradão in Salvador, despite having won the first leg at the Maracanã. Even with greater ball possession and offensive volume, the red-and-black team could not overturn the score, ending their participation in the tournament.

With these opening matches, the Copa do Brasil promises to intensify the title race, with teams looking to solidify their favoritism from the start of this important stage.
