CONMEBOL has officially released its 2027 calendar, confirming the date for the Libertadores final and a strategic pause in competitions to accommodate the Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
On Tuesday (25), CONMEBOL released the detailed schedule for its major club competitions in 2027. The biggest highlights are the Libertadores final, scheduled for November 27, and a structural change to the calendar: South American football will be paused to accommodate the Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted on Brazilian soil.
The stoppage, running from June 24 to July 25, is a precautionary measure by the organization. With Brazil hosting the FIFA tournament for the first time in history, several stadiums and training centers across eight host cities, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Brasília, will be under exclusive use for the global event, making it impossible to hold continental matches.
Adjustments to the continental calendar
The South American season will kick off with the preliminary stages of the Libertadores, following its usual flow until the forced break. According to the organization, the group stage of the competition is scheduled to begin on April 6. After the conclusion of the women’s tournament, competition will resume at its normal pace, advancing to the knockout stages that will determine the finalists for the November showdown.
Prior to that, the calendar makes space for the Recopa Sudamericana. The clash pitting the continental champions against each other is scheduled for February 17 and 24, setting a competitive tone early in the season.
Strategic assessment of the measure
The interruption of the calendar was seen as a necessary decision by experts. According to the M360 Team, the impact of the occupation of sporting venues required prior organization to avoid logistical issues.
