Gonzalo Plata‘s future at Flamengo has taken new turns after strong statements from club executive José Boto. Amidst the match against Mirassol at the Maracanã, Boto publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Dynamo Moscow, the Russian club that backed out of signing the Ecuadorian forward.

Boto warns about negotiations with Russian clubs
José Boto called Dynamo Moscow‘s conduct unacceptable and a “bad smell,” indicating that the negotiation process was not conducted with sufficient transparency. The Flamengo executive warned Brazilian clubs about the need for caution when closing deals with Russian institutions, given the negative experience.
Boto stated, expressing surprise at the turn of events:
I can’t explain what the Russians did, can I? I can only tell you that Plata is very welcome; we never wanted Plata to leave.
The deal, which involved an upfront payment of 12 million euros, approximately R$ 72 million, was halted after Plata was allegedly deemed unfit in medical exams. However, the Russian club did not provide the official medical report to Flamengo.
Legal action underway
Given the lack of concrete justifications, Flamengo is already considering legal action against Dynamo Moscow. The episode is reminiscent of similar cases involving other Brazilian clubs, which also promised legal action after frustrating international negotiations.
Despite the imbroglio, the priority now is the reintegration of Gonzalo Plata into Flamengo‘s main squad. The forward, whose transfer to Russia was blocked, is expected to resume his activities with the Rio de Janeiro team in the coming weeks, while the club seeks to resolve the legal pending issues. Plata‘s situation at Flamengo highlights the complexity of transfer market negotiations, especially when they involve clubs from different confederations and require a high degree of transparency.
