The future of Everton Cebolinha at Flamengo appears to have come to an end. In blunt statements, the club’s football director, José Boto, declared that the forward—whose contract runs until the end of 2026—has “removed himself” from the Rubro-Negro. The decision allegedly came from the player himself, who expressed a desire not to renew his contract, signaling the end of his cycle at the club.
In light of Cebolinha’s stance, Flamengo has stated it is willing to facilitate the athlete’s departure, aiming to streamline the process so he can move on with his career. The director emphasized that the club will not create obstacles, provided that the established conditions are met.
Talks with Santos progress
José Boto revealed that, following the latest match against Remo, Cebolinha requested permission to travel to Rio de Janeiro, claiming there were clubs interested in his services. The director confirmed that Flamengo is aware of several proposals but is waiting for the contracts to be formalized before officializing the transfer.
One of Flamengo‘s requirements for releasing Cebolinha to a Brazilian club is that he cannot play against them in future competitions. This condition is part of the exit agreement, demonstrating the club’s concern about strengthening a direct competitor in the short term.
Interest from Santos and Neymar’s role
Negotiations between Cebolinha and Santos are at an advanced stage, with the São Paulo club showing strong interest in signing the forward. According to reports, superstar Neymar has reached out to the Flamengo number 11 to assist with the negotiations, reinforcing the Peixe’s desire to sign the player.
This market activity shows that, despite a potential return to Brazilian football, the forward had also been targeted by clubs abroad. Previously, a deal with Russia’s Krasnodar was close to completion but ultimately fell through.
