Barcelona secures Dominik Livakovic on a four-year contract.

Barcelona officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic this Thursday. The transfer involves a fixed fee of €2 million, with the possibility of another €2 million in add-ons.

EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES

Immediate Future Uncertain

Despite the signing, Livakovic’s role for this season remains an unknown. Barça‘s board is evaluating whether the goalkeeper will join Hansi Flick‘s first-team squad as a second or third choice, or if he will be sent out on loan. The player’s registration also depends on financial viability and salary cap space.

Anticipated Planning

Originally, Livakovic’s arrival was planned for the 2027/28 season, aimed at succeeding Wojciech Szczesny. However, the club decided to accelerate the operation, reinforcing the position with an internationally renowned goalkeeper.

2022 World Cup Hero

Dominik Livakovic gained worldwide attention for his performances in the 2022 World Cup. He was a key piece in Croatia‘s campaign, especially in the elimination of Brazil in the quarterfinals, where he shone in the penalty shootout. His decisive performance was also on display in the round of 16 against Japan.

Recent Experience in Spain

The goalkeeper has already had a brief stint in Spanish football. Last season, he was loaned by Fenerbahçe to Girona, but did not play any official matches. Seeking playing time with an eye on the 2026 World Cup, he returned to Dinamo Zagreb on loan.

The signing of Dominik Livakovic is a major reinforcement for Barcelona, adding experience and quality to the squad. The decision on whether he will be utilized immediately or loaned out will be crucial in defining the next steps for both the goalkeeper and the club this season.
