The Flamengo left-back admits to exhaustion after a marathon of eight starts, but is focusing on recovery for the season’s upcoming challenges.
Left-back Ayrton Lucas shared his physical condition after an intense streak of eight consecutive starts for Flamengo. The statement came out in the mixed zone at the Mangueirão stadium, after the Rubro-Negro’s 1-0 victory over Remo, in a match valid for the 26th round of the Brasileirão. The player, a key part of the team, admitted to feeling the accumulated fatigue due to the physical demands of a tight schedule and adverse weather conditions in Belém.
“I’m fine, I’m fine, but fatigue has accumulated,” acknowledged Ayrton Lucas. He emphasized the weight of the pitch and the physical nature of the match against Remo, highlighting the total commitment in each game. “As in all matches, we give our all and get a bit tired at the end. But, thank God, the scare was only at the end, I stayed on the field and the result was positive for us,” added the number 6, who showed discomfort in his posterior thigh at the end of the game.
Self-Care and the Importance of Recovery
The marathon of games, coupled with the rain that hit the Mangueirão pitch, increased the physical demands. Ayrton Lucas made a point of highlighting the importance of body care off the field. “In football, we have to take great care of ourselves, especially off the field. In Brazil, the number of games is very high, so we don’t choose when we’ll have a streak,” he explained. The full-back expressed satisfaction with maintaining good physical performance and, especially, with avoiding injuries. “I’m happy to be responding well physically and without injuries, which is the most important thing for an athlete,” he stated.
Recovery work, both individual and club-provided, is seen as essential to maintaining the athlete’s consistency and well-being. Ayrton Lucas’s streak of starts was due to the absence of Alex Sandro, who was injured. The physical demand imposed by this series of matches reinforces the attention of the player and the coaching staff to recovery between commitments.
Upcoming Challenges and Tactical Evaluation
With the Brasileirão game marathon underway, Flamengo is already turning its attention to the Libertadores. Ayrton Lucas is available for the first leg of the quarterfinals against Independiente del Valle (ECU), which will take place this Thursday (10th), in Quito. The match, scheduled for 9:30 PM (Brasília time) at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, will test the squad’s recovery capabilities.
In his post-match analysis, the full-back celebrated the current moment and the individual and collective evolution. He highlighted the importance of defensive adaptation and tactical consistency for the team. “When we don’t concede goals, it’s good not only for the defense but for the entire team to stay strong,” he pointed out. The confidence built with solid defensive performances is seen as a pillar for offensive performance, where players like Pedro and Everton Cebolinha have the ability to decide games. Defensive cohesion is crucial for the attack’s firepower to be exploited.
Finally, Ayrton Lucas praised the support of the Flamengo fans, present in all corners of the country, and congratulated the atmosphere created by the supporters at Mangueirão. The energy from the stands is another element that drives the team on its journey this season.
