With a historic 18-0 scoreline, Atlético-PI has broken the record for the biggest blowout ever recorded across all divisions of Brazilian championships organized by the CBF.

Brazilian women’s football is experiencing a moment of remarkable statistics, and Atlético-PI has just raised the bar to an unprecedented level. Last Saturday, the Piauí side did not just win; they steamrolled Itacoatiara, recording an 18-0 score in a match for the Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino Série A2. The result establishes the club as the holder of the most lopsided victory in the history of national competitions, uniting both men’s and women’s football rankings.

This historic mark surpasses the previous national record held by Ferroviária. In 2014, the São Paulo side defeated Pinheirense 16-1 in the top tier of the sport. With this recent feat, the team from Piauí claims the top spot for biggest blowouts, surpassing competitions across all divisions of Brazilian men’s football and the three women’s divisions.

Dominance of expressive scorelines

The performance by Atlético-PI reinforces a growing trend in the country’s statistics, where women’s football accounts for four of the five largest blowouts ever recorded by the CBF. To illustrate the technical disparity of the match, only five games in the entire history of national championships—considering both genders—have reached a goal difference of 13 or more.

In comparison to the men’s game, the record remains with Porto Velho, who in 2026 beat Humaitá 13-0 during the Serie D. The women’s dominance in terms of massive scorelines highlights a period of transition and technical disparity that remains common in certain stages of national competitions organized by football’s highest governing body.

Next steps in the competition

After the crushing victory that sealed their qualification for the quarterfinals of the Brasileirão Feminino Série A2, the focus now shifts to the knockout stage. The team from Piauí will face a higher-level technical challenge against 3B da Amazônia.

The battle for a spot in the semifinals promises to be one of the main attractions of the tournament. The knockout matches are scheduled for August 15th and 22nd. The expectation is to see if the offensive momentum shown in the first phase will be maintained against an opponent that historically puts up more resistance.
