Arsenal advances for Bruno Guimarães; Athletico Paranaense secures millionaire bonus
Arsenal is close to finalizing the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães, currently with Newcastle. The deal, which already has a verbal agreement between the parties, is considered one of the biggest in the English club’s recent history. The total value of the transaction is estimated to reach £80 million, approximately R$590 million.
The information, reported by ESPN and Folhapress, indicates that the final details are being ironed out, and an official announcement is expected soon after the medical examinations. The player, a key member of the Brazil national team, is reportedly set to sign a five-year contract with the London-based squad.
Although Athletico Paranaense no longer holds the player’s economic rights, the club stands to gain from the transfer. Thanks to FIFA‘s solidarity mechanism, which allocates 5% of international transfer fees to youth clubs, the club is expected to receive approximately R$8 million. Bruno Guimarães played for the Paranense club between 2017 and 2020 before moving to Lyon.
Guimarães’ arrival fulfills a request from head coach Mikel Arteta, who seeks to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield with a high-intensity player capable of building plays. The Brazilian will compete for a starting spot with players like Declan Rice and Martín Zubimendi. For Newcastle, the sale represents financial relief and an opportunity to reinvest in the squad.
