Ambition for Titles as Fuel

When asked directly what drives him to continue leading Verdão, Abel Ferreira was emphatic in pointing to the ambition for achievements as his main motivation.

The coach stated:

Winning titles. That’s what motivates me. That’s why I’m at Palmeiras, and that’s what we’ve been doing in recent years.

He stressed that the club’s success transcends trophies, mentioning the high valuation of the squad, currently estimated at approximately R$1.4 billion, as a result of the joint work between the coaching staff, board, and football department. The youthfulness of the squad, combining competitiveness with the strength of young talents, was also emphasized.

An Exemplary Management Model

The Portuguese coach made a point of praising the club’s recent administrations, citing the tenures of Maurício Galiotte and president Leila Pereira as crucial for maintaining competitiveness.

The coach highlighted:

Palmeiras should be a club to be emulated by a good portion of Brazilian clubs.

He believes that administrative stability is key to consistently contending for titles without compromising the institution’s financial health, praising the balance between investments and results.

The Strength of the Youth Academy in the Project

The appreciation and use of players developed in the youth academy were another fundamental pillar highlighted by Abel Ferreira. Against Fortaleza, Palmeiras took the field with eight players from its youth system.

The coach explained that this is a strategy that involves risks but brings immense competitive and financial benefits. Regarding the project, he concluded:

That’s what gives me this fire, being at a club with a project that always fights to win in every competition it enters.

With a spot in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals secured, Palmeiras‘ focus now shifts to the Brazilian Serie A. The team, which leads the competition, aims to maintain consistent performance against Internacional next Sunday. The continuation of Abel Ferreira‘s work suggests that the club will remain a strong contender on all fronts.
