Grêmio is making progress in talks to sign midfielder Raí Silva ahead of 2027, but an automatic renewal clause with Juventude poses a barrier to finalizing the deal.
Grêmio has begun making strategic moves in the transfer market as part of its planning for the 2027 season. The main target at the moment is midfielder Raí Silva, who currently plays for Juventude. Negotiations between the Porto Alegre club and the player’s representatives are already at an advanced stage.
However, the path to an official announcement is not without obstacles. Raí Silva‘s current deal with the Serra Gaúcha side expires in December, but a contract clause could change the picture and complicate plans for the Tricolor Gaúcho.
The contractual challenge in Serra Gaúcha
The hurdle lies in an automatic renewal clause in the player’s contract. If Juventude secures promotion to Brazil’s top flight, Raí Silva‘s contract will be automatically extended. As a result, Grêmio‘s chances directly depend on the Caxias do Sul team’s performance down the final stretch of the season.
If promotion is achieved, Grêmio’s board will need to renegotiate terms directly with the club from the Serra region. On the other hand, if Juventude remains in Série B, the midfielder’s contract situation becomes far more favorable for a free transfer to the Tricolor.
Grêmio’s board is closely monitoring the end of Juventude‘s season, knowing that the competition’s outcome will be the deciding factor in making Raí Silva‘s arrival possible for the squad managed by Renato Portaluppi.
Internal obstacles and the club’s future
Beyond the complexity surrounding the midfielder, Grêmio is dealing with an urgent institutional concern. The club was recently hit with a transfer ban by FIFA. Although the specific cause of the sanction has not been publicly detailed, it prevents the registration of new players with the governing body.
Resolving this financial issue is essential so that, if the signing of Raí Silva is finalized, the player can be registered in the BID system and be eligible to play for Grêmio. However, the club’s immediate focus remains split between future planning and the Gre-Nal derby scheduled for next Sunday, which is considered crucial for the team’s battle to stay in the top division.
