Vasco President Pedrinho Responds to Flamengo’s Bap Regarding the Sale of Vasco’s SAF.
Negotiations for the sale of Vasco’s SAF continue to stir controversy and heated debates. The São Januário club is in advanced talks to bring in businessman Marcos Lamacchia as its new manager, a name linked to the family of the owner of Crefisa and the stepson of Leila Pereira.
In response to criticism from Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap), president of Flamengo, Vasco’s chairman, Pedrinho, mocked the Rubro-Negro executive after the draw for the Copa do Brasil.
Criticism and Mockery in Rio Football Rift
Pedrinho questioned Bap‘s stance, emphasizing that Vasco is following all legal procedures for the SAF sale. The Vasco president stated that people who talk nonsense without knowing the facts are contradictory, as their own management histories contradict their statements.
He advised rival executives to focus on their own clubs and not on Vasco. In a provocative tone, Pedrinho added:
Vasco already has many problems, and I have issues to take care of, so I can’t be listening to presidents who want to meddle in things that don’t concern their club. And I’m speaking directly about Bap because he has a crazy passion for Vasco. I’m starting to think he’s a Vasco fan.
The Point of Tension: Flamengo and the SAF Sale
Tension between the clubs intensified after Bap expressed concerns about the potential acquisition of Vasco by Marcos Lamacchia. The Flamengo executive indicated that the Rio club might resort to legal action, citing possible family and regulatory conflicts of interest according to the Civil Code.
Flamengo has also formally filed a complaint with the National Agency for Regulation and Sustainability of Football (ANRESF). The justification is that the negotiation would violate the Financial Sustainability System (SSF), alleging cross-influence between the buyer’s economic group and the presidency of Palmeiras.
Vasco’s Future: Investment and Proposal
Currently, Vasco seeks to sell 90% of its SAF shares. The proposal under discussion foresees a minimum investment of R$ 650 million over the next five years.
The negotiation leadership on behalf of the São Januário club is handled by the company Almirante Participações e Empreendimentos S.A. The outcome of this negotiation and the verbal sparring between the executives promise to keep the Brazilian football scene heated in the coming weeks.
